Re: Has Boris screwed Londoners over housing?
Buy to leave they call it, rich foreigners parking their money here. It's not just new builds, walk around many central streets and look up at the windows in the evening and there are few lights on. If you can afford to buy, chances are you have others and can afford to leave it empty.

A lot of the indigenous populous have cashed in and moved out as there is no longer a community in many places, it's soulless. So not the best place to live anyway.

As people move out the money does filter down, it's like uncontrolled immigration, there is no control.

Or could try my idea of only allowing individual UK taxpayers to own residential property in London.
Any owned by any other person or structure must be disposed of within 5 years or it will be seized and used as council housing.

Re: Has Boris screwed Londoners over housing?
Obviously 100,000 affordable homes doesn't touch the sides when you are letting 300k per year immigrants in. Not to mention the demand of those already here. They need to be seriously bulldozing down green belt and building on everything if they expect this many people to actually live here. More schools, hospitals, GP surgerys, the whole thing is under strain.

Can't believe there isn't riots over the cost of housing both rental and buying.
I'm OK only got 8yrs left on my mortgage but my kids are going to struggle.
It's scandalous

The rental prices in our town are scandalous...

Well I know who is responsible for housing policy in London.

Re: Has Boris screwed Londoners over housing?
Londoners/british people have screwed themselves over with their moronic rat race mentality. It's the same mentality that sees people queuing up an hour before a flight boards because they don't want to be left out

The extra 10 million who live in the UK has put more pressure on housing than Boris could ever do.

Re: Has Boris screwed Londoners over housing?
There is a fixation in this country for higher house prices. Government policy has screwed most of those wanting to get on to the ladder. House prices need to come down naturally, but are being forced up by help to buy schemes which favour only a few.

Until the greed and easy money making stops, things can only get worse. Those with an ever increasing buy to let portfolio aren't helping either causing stronger demand than can be supplied.

Re: Has Boris screwed Londoners over housing?
Born and raised in Mile End, but couldn't afford to buy there now. Although my parents still own property there.

That said, the home county cunts and their annoying hipster upper-middle class far left snooty accent have drained the last bit of life left. It's fucking horrible, and beyond the Bow Flyover, it's only going to get worse.

Re: Has Boris screwed Londoners over housing?
Interesting that they said some land at Greenwich was worth £50m .....: was sold to the developers for £50m less a discount and a 'credit'. Ended up paying the developers £13m to take the land.

What's happening with all these towers along the river where Chinese investors have put down £2,000 on each flat & now they are a bit stretched with Chinese growth falling are inviting the developers to chase them in the Chinese courts for the rest?

Re: Has Boris screwed Londoners over housing?
Not really sure how you can blame Boris.

Governments over the last 30 years have failed to deal with this and not just in London.

mallard 9:14 Thu Feb 25
Re: Has Boris screwed Londoners over housing?
This selling off public land to developers, and not providing social housing, is happening all over the country
